Showy Mountain-Ash - Sorbus decora
This amazing mountain-ash manages to grow in Greenland, as well as Labrador and much of northeast Canada and as far south as northern Illinois. It grows in a variety of habitats, often in woodland settings.Trees may reach more than 65 feet in height, and have a rounded crown and a trunk as much as a foot in diameter. The bark is thin and scaly with age. The leaves are pinnately compound, less than a foot long, and composed of 11-15 leaflets that are toothed and sharply tipped. Autumn color is red and yellow. The flowers are in clusters, each flower with 5 white petals, and the round fruits are red and shiny.
