Hybrid Oak - Quercus x substellata
Quercus x substellata is a cross between Q. bicolor (Swamp White Oak) and Q. stellata (Post Oak). Post Oak is widely distributed from Texas to the East Coast and north to Pennsylvania, and Swamp White Oak is a more northerly species. Substellata is native to New Jersey. The name was original published and accepted in 1994. A white oak, the leaves are shallowly lobed and narrowed in the midsection, much like Q. stellata but not as rectangular.
