Hybrid Jeffrey - Coulter Pine - Pinus jeffreyi x P. coulteri
A hybrid found in the coastal mountains of southern California, this is a tall tree with fissured bark on older trees; the inner bark is orange-brown. The branches are in whorls and ascending. The needles are intermediate in length between the parents, are borne in bundles of 3 and up to 10 inches in length with stomatal lines above and below that resemble those of P. jeffreyi. The cone is also intermediate in size and shape, having short spines that are similar to P. coulteri; they are up to six inches long. This hybrid has been artificially grown.
