Coco Plum - Chrysobalanus icaco
Coco Plum is native to southern Florida and the Florida Keys where it grows in wet habitats, primarily near the coast. It is a small tree-less than 20 feet-with a rounded crown. The evergreen leaves are alternate, rounded to oval, and shiny and dark green above and paler below, with notched tips. They are often twisted so that they face upwards on the branch. The flowers are borne in clusters; they have five white petals and are bell-shaped. Flowering can be continuous throughout the spring and summer. The fruits are sweet and sometimes used for preserves.
